Estelita’s Library
“We modeled Estelita’s after the community centerpieces of Nicaragua, where people of all ages and backgrounds gather to talk and play. The gossiping, storytelling, and occasional debating all do their part to keep the energy of the community alive.
Estelita’s is a community space for people to come together, raise their voices, and inspire each other.
We invite everyone here to think openly and speak freely.”

Black Farmers Collective
“Access to green-spaces that honor safety and acceptance, knowledge of growing food and opportunities to connect with communities are key to generating healing.
Our mission is to build a Black-led food system by developing a cooperative network of food system actors, acquiring and stewarding land, facilitating food system education, and creating space for Black liberation in healing and joy.”

Sawhorse Revolution
“Our mission is to foster confident, community-oriented youth through the power of carpentry and craft. Sawhorse Revolution strives to see, acknowledge and identify the intersections of individual, cultural, and institutional racism and social injustice. We are inspired to create equitable change within a framework of “feet-on-the-ground” education, empowerment, and leadership, in and for our community.”

Why? Because Black Lives Matter and because art is a powerful force-
it can offer a safe space and gently encourage the conversations that build community.
Participating in an art practice is a privilege (though it shouldn’t be). I hope that by sharing my art with you and the world, I can help to
create a community where others have the space to get acquainted with their own creativity.

The decal patterns on the surface of the ceramics are burned in but will remain exuberant for longer with your gentle care:
I strongly recommend hand washing your piece using a sponge without abrasive scouring pads.
While the ceramics are microwave and oven safe, I do not recommend using them in either.
-
The glaze and most of the decals that I use are food safe!
The red and the red-orange-vermillion decals do contain a small amount of cadmium are not considered food safe. Pieces with the red or orange decals in their design are best for decorative purposes only. All other decal colors are food safe.
For pieces that have a matte glaze, be mindful of foods with strong dying powers—like turmeric and coffee—as they will stain the glaze over time.
-
Occasionally the decal designs will slightly burn off or morph while in the kiln. I love this about them! These unpredictable “imperfections” are a reminder that a human made this art, not a robot.
I do my best to photograph each piece in a way that shows these handmade aspects.

If your piece of ceramics breaks, consider looking into kintsugi- the japanese art of embracing the flaw by repairing with it lacquer and gold powder. I suggest JMCraftStore.
